Frank H.T. Rhodes
Frank H.T. Rhodes, President Emeritus at Cornell
University, was named to The Johnson Foundation
Board of Trustees in June 2001. Prior to his
Cornell presidency, Dr. Rhodes was Vice President
for Academic Affairs at the University of
Michigan, and earlier served as Dean of the
College of Literature, Science and the Arts.
He was previously Professor and head of the
Geology Department and Dean of the Faculty
of Science at the University of Wales. A former
Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright Distinguished
Fellow, Dr. Rhodes holds three degrees from
the University of Birmingham, England, honorary
degrees from more than 35 institutions in
the U.S. and abroad, and has won numerous
awards. Dr. Rhodes has published widely, and
his books include The Creation of the Future,
Language of the Earth, and The Evolution
of Life. He has served on many presidential
advisory boards and is past President of the
American Philosophical Society and on the
boards of Overseers of Koç University, Turkey,
and Goldman Sachs Foundation.
