Step 1.
Letter of Inquiry
Submit a one- to two-page letter that includes:
- A
clear statement of purpose;
- A
draft agenda;
- The
identification of key participants; and
- An
estimated budget and schedule.
The letter should describe how the conference will:
- Enhance
collaboration and community;
- Include
diverse opinions and perspectives;
- Identify
solutions; and
- Result
in action.
Step 2. Formal Proposal
Following our review of your inquiry, you will receive a response informing you whether or not to proceed with a formal proposal.
The appropriate program officer may invite a formal
proposal that should include:
- A
concise statement of purpose;
- A
description of the issue(s) the conference will
address, the manner in which this will be addressed,
why the issue is important (briefly), and the anticipated results;
- An action plan, including post-conference
efforts to ensure dissemination and results;
- Complete
identification of convening and co-sponsoring organizations;
- The
conference format (plenary/break-out meetings, working
meeting, conference series, etc.);
- The proposed dates and
duration of the conference;
- The
estimated number and identity of participants;
- The
support sought from The Johnson Foundation;
- Sources
of additional support, where required; and
- 501
(c)(3) and 509 (a) (1), (2), or (3) status documentation.
