The Johnson Foundation
Roger C. Dower became president of The
Johnson Foundation in March 2007. Dower joined the
Foundation following an extensive career in the for-profit
and the not-for-profit sectors. He brings extensive
expertise in environmental, natural resource, and
energy policy. Trained as an economist, he is an expert
in strategic planning, business development, and institutional
development, both nationally and internationally.
Most recently, Dower was President of the U.S. Forest
Stewardship Council, which sets voluntary standards
for sustainable forest management that represent the
world’s strongest system for linking the market
place for forest products with superior environmental
performance on the ground. Prior to his work in the
forest sector, Dower was President of the eNERGYSolve
Corporation, where he managed the marketing of energy
services to industrial, commercial, and institutional
clients, and also designed and implemented the spin-off
of two energy companies. He also was Director of the
World Resources Institute’s Climate, Energy,
and Pollution Program. Dower is the author of numerous
books, articles, and publications related to energy
and environmental policy, many of which concern using
the marketplace to help solve critical social issues.
He also serves on a number of boards, including Americans
for an Equitable Climate Solution and the Rechargeable
Battery Recycling Corporation. Dower holds a B.S.
and M.S. in Resource Economics from the University
of Maryland.
