Upcoming Conferences: Environment
We plan and host meetings that have impact on the future of the environment and our community.
An Integrated Science Curriculum in the Context of Global Challenges
This strategic planning retreat for the Division of Natural Sciences will build a strategy for reforming our scientific curricula to build on an integrated approach to the delivery of disciplinary curricula in the context of "grand challenges" - water, energy, climate, education, health & disease and the brain. These social imperatives will serve as a thematic platform for the curriculum and will be tightly integrated into courses and experiences across the division. To help us toward implementation, this conference will focus on:
reaching consensus and commitment on the direction of the integrated science curriculum and Grand Challenges as organizing principle;
implementation strategies to determine the scope and extent of the reform and the curricular format;
building external relationships and bridges with outside organizations;
ensure architectural plans for new site reflect our curricular commitment to resource issues by embracing our geographic location on the waterfront.
Champions of Their Rivers 2: Effective Citizen Engagement in Riverfront Restoration
The purpose of this workshop is to ensure that there are strong and effective citizen advocates for economically and ecologically resilient rivers and river fronts in Wisconsin’s Great Lakes basin. This workshop has the following goals: to provide training on communication with and effective engagement of local governments; to build access to technical information and resources; to build individual and organizational relationships across municipal boundaries; to assist participants in building a strong campaign for riverfront revitalization in their community. The intended outcome is that each participant will go home with an action plan for the next year specific to their own river. River Alliance will follow up with participants to assist them in carrying out this action plan.
