BRIEFING: The Balanced Equation: A Screening of the Locally-Produced Documentary on the World Water Crisis

Thursday, February 16, 2012
The Johnson Foundation at Wingspread.

One-eighth of the world's population does not have access to clean, drinkable water. Three and a half million people die each year from water-related diseases and, every twenty seconds, a child dies from drinking contaminated water. Despite all of this, the real tragedy is that this crisis is completely preventable. The technology exists today to successfully address this issue. In the new documentary, The Balanced Equation, three young filmmakers from Racine, Wisconsin use their storytelling skills to showcase their journey to investigate and explore six unique point-of-use water filtration and chemical treatment systems being implemented in developing countries such as Kenya and the Dominican Republic.
