By the mid-1950s, Herbert Fisk Johnson and his wife decided to build another house next to Wingspread. California architect Henry L. Eggers and interior designer T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings designed the new residence overlooking Wingspread’s pond. The Johnsons moved into their new home, which they called “The House,” in 1959.
H.F. Johnson died in December, 1978. The House was donated to the Foundation and remodeled for conference use in the early 1980s. Its facilities now add a valuable dimension to the work done at the organization. In 1990, The House’s large garage was extensively remodeled to provide new administrative offices for the Foundation.
