Green Procurement Policy

Buildings and people can generate a lot of waste and use large quantities of materials and resources. We encourage the selection of sustainably grown, harvested, produced and transported products and materials. This promotes waste reduction as well as reuse and recycling. “Green seal certified” products are given preference. For instance:

  • Office paper supplies meet the G-33 standard, with 30 percent recycled content, and are FSC certified and produced chlorine free.
  • Laundry and cleaning products are chlorine-free and Green Seal certified.
  • Bulk amenities are used in guest rooms.
  • Comprehensive waste management program encompasses: extensive on-site recycling of plastic, aluminum, steel, glass, newspaper, office paper, cardboard, light bulbs, lead-acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, motor oil and grease; composting of yard and food waste; chipping, mulching and organic dump.
  • New, replacement appliances are ENERGY STAR rated.
  • New heat pumps manufactured and sourced within 200 miles of Racine.
