Odyssey Project Graduation

We hosted the graduation ceremony for the inaugural class of the Racine Odyssey Project on May 22, 2004. This video shows the very moving speech of the valedictorian.

The Racine Odyssey Project began in October 2003 with the goal of educating the poor and homeless in the humanities, exposing them to critical thinking, deep reflection and fuller participation in public life. Adult students of all ages attended class twice a week in the evenings to study philosophy, literature, art/history and American history. Six students graduated.

This year's classes will begin soon. They are free of charge to qualified students, and are held at Next Generation Now, with free childcare. Books are also included. For more information on this year's class, contact Chris Beem.

For a copy of the video, including the commencement speech by Esther Letven, Associate Vice-Chancellor, Extended Services Director, Center for Community Partnerships, University of Wisconsin-Parkside, please contact Kurt Wuerker.
